Whiteburn Projects has secured planning consent from the Scottish Borders Council’s Planning and Building Standards February 2024 Committee today to deliver its plans for the regeneration of the former March Street Mill, in Peebles.

Whiteburn’s plans for the first phase of the March Street development will deliver 50 two, three and four bedroom homes. The former Engine and Boiler House will be retained for commercial use.  The Lodge Gatehouse will be sympathetically extended and modernised into a new family home. A key focus of the approved development plan includes the preservation of the Key Greenspace for community allotment use.  Now that planning consent has been granted, Section 75 contributions will be agreed with Scottish Borders Council.

Whiteburn Projects Managing Director, Eve McCurrich said: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent for our March Street development which follows extensive local consultation, and will deliver a sensitive development in the heart of the Peebles Conservation Area.

“Within our approved plans for the development,  we are pleased to have been able to provide a solution that allows for the retention of Key Green Space for long-term community allotment growing space, and we are committed to this being delivered for all parties.”

The redevelopment of March Street is a sustainable re-use of this brownfield site, it will enable people to ‘live locally’ within a 20 minute neighbourhood in the heart of Peebles.

Roger Bainbridge, Director of Design and Delivery for Whiteburn Projects adds:  “Our key objective is to breathe new life into this part of Peebles and to create a great place for people to live, work and play.  Our Section 75 commitments will have a direct and positive impact on the local community, and we are excited to finally be in a position to begin making our plans to transform the site.

“We expect to begin pre-construction works within the next few months, and we intend to move forward with our tendering processes.  I would be keen to hear from any local suppliers and subcontractors who would like to work on our March Street development.”
