Leith Lofts, Edinburgh

Dilapidated and full of pigeons, but only 200m from the many bars and restaurants on the popular street, The Shore, Whiteburn spotted an opportunity in two vacant, former-whisky bonds, in a courtyard setting.

Discovering the Location

Whiteburn purchased the property on Maritime St, Leith, Edinburgh in 1997 and working with architect Gordon Duffy, gained a unique building warrant for shell dwellings.

Together we created Scotland’s first genuine ‘lofts development’ by adding contemporary top floor galleries and roof terraces. And, to keep up the theme of uniqueness, buyers could also opt to plan and do their own internal fit outs… and many did.

Unique Design

As well as their highly original design, Leith Lofts was one of the first residential developments to be marketed on the net, with a pioneering on-line fly-thru created for each apartment.

Virtually all 28 apartments sold prior to completion and Leith Lofts featured in an ITV Home Show episode on loft living (another good excuse for a party in the show-home).
