Caerlee Mill, Innerleithen – 2020

It was a short move from their previous home, 5 miles down the road in Peebles. The decision to move was because their “old property was a Victorian style Cottage that we spent 15 years working on – we thought it might be quite nice to not have to do that again”. The couple’s decision to move was prompted by the simplicity of buying a new build home “We had just sat down to discuss the possibility of moving house and Gary went off to do some research that same evening. It just seemed the obvious thing to do for us as we liked the look of the places, and we liked the fixed prices.” From then on “It all kind of fell into place”.

The couple said that the sales process “was very clear. We went to the first meeting in Edinburgh, it was made very clear what to expect and what the process would be.” As the couple’s journey towards their new home continued, Rachel and Gary had a ‘welcome meeting’ prior to their move in date, to explain their new home. Both agreed that the welcome meeting was “great” and was beneficial to have the opportunity to be shown around the house and its fixtures and fittings, prior to moving in.

When the move in day came around, the couple found it went “very smoothly” as they had been in rented accommodation for some time, following the sale of their previous home. They were both “desperately keen and excited to move” into their new home and were happy with the handover process.

Once the couple moved into their property, they were pleased with their new home stating that “I just love the fact there’s so much light” As well as the “big double doors, all the windows are big, which we really like.” This makes a difference to the environment inside – “it’s a real strength, the views out the back windows are fantastic.” In addition to the natural lighting and there being plentiful windows in their property, the couple are enjoying staying in an “Insulated house – it’s brilliant!” Having lived in an older property for many years – “it’s just so cosy – it’s amazing.”

Gary and Rachel noted that “it’s not just the house itself, but it’s the whole development. We love the whole look of the place.”

“There’s something about the design, the way it’s laid out, its spacious and we’re not cramped on top of each other.” And with the trees that are being planted “it is going to get nicer and nicer. Anyone that has visited us has commented on what a lovely development it is – everything has been positive.” As the pair had lived in the area for some time, they do know the area, however they commented how nice, friendly and welcoming Innerleithen is, and noted that. “The other big benefit is that we’re in a brand-new development that’s bang in the middle of the town, usually these developments are on the edge of the town, so it’s great to be in the centre”.

Overall, both Gary and Rachel were very positive about their home buying experience, and stated “Yes, absolutely. Definitely”, when asked if they would recommend Whiteburn to friends and family. And finally noting that they were:

Very happy with everything – we’re delighted. We haven’t anything that we would do differently
