Caerlee Mill, Innerleithen – 2021

In June 2021, retirees Mike and Joyce upped sticks, after 40 years in their home in the Peak district, to make the exciting new move into their 3 bedroom, Ballantyne property at Caerlee Mill, Innerleithen.

The couple’s search started as they were looking to downsize from their cottage in the peak district, to a new build property somewhere in the Scottish Borders. The beneficial points of new build property, such as energy conservation and 10 year warranty made for a very attractive prospect against having to modernise their older existing property.

Their search area was broad and initially, consideration for Mike and Joyce was gravitating towards Peebles, however “….the opportunity of this particular development and the property description…drew us towards it” and “…this site stood out”.

After looking at the website, receiving information and chatting through with our Sales Manager, Toria, Mike and Joyce decide that the Ballantyne property was the right fit for them. “what appealed to us about this property was the design of the open plan, particularly on the ground floor.” And in addition, they commented that “We like the openness – the light and the open aspect with the various windows are what we particularly like, combined with the low maintenance and energy efficiency”.

Once the decision was made to purchase their property, the couple then had the opportunity to select the choices for fittings and fixtures to their property. They were happy with the good selection of options and upgrades, but were particularly impressed that Whiteburn were willing to discuss and accommodate where possible, any suggestions that the couple may have had to customise their home to suit their needs.

When reflecting on the welcome meeting and also the handover on the big day, Mike commented that “The opportunity to meet with somebody from the company to begin with, to the very useful handover pack that was given to us with the various guarantees with other information etc. in there, was very useful – so our experience with all of that was good. We got the keys, the ease in which we moved into the house all fell into place and in line with our removal company etc. and the whole of that process went well”

As the couple settled into their new home, they were able to use our CRM system to log any points which they had noticed in their property, stating that there was “nothing major”, however they were keen to point out that “The guys on site were very amenable and very approachable…and were onto things very quickly, and if they could help, they would help”

A special final note from the couple was to the team on site, and Mike was keen to ensure that it was relayed that “We have been really, really impressed with the Building Team on site. They seem to take a real pride and ownership in the development of the site. They kept the site really clean and very tidy, and they communicated with us all the time. There was a real sense of pride in the work that they were doing. That was evident to ourselves, living here whilst the site was still being developed. You could see it wasn’t just a matter of doing a job, downing tools and going home. They ensured that things were cleared and cleaned and kept in order, and took genuine care in the work that they were doing. We were more than happy and impressed with the whole workforce”
